Republic Day

After independence, the country had no self-created official constitution, rather its laws were based on amended colonial acts. Therefore, establishing an official constitution for its country was the biggest task before the Government of India. Our Constitution is the result of hard work and struggle of the respected members of the Constituent Assembly under the chairmanship of Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Ambedkar was the father of our Constitution.

Our founders created our Constitution after a thorough study of the constitutions of other countries and it is the longest constitution in the world. This shows the dedication and foresight of these great men. This is how the Constitution came into existence. It took two years, eleven months and eighteen days to complete the Constitution. Although it was enacted and adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, it came into force on 26 January 1950.
