Once a lion was sleeping in the forest when a mouse started running up and down its body for its amusement. This broke the lion’s sleep and he woke up very angry. He was about to eat the mouse when the mouse requested the lion to set him free. “I promise you, I will be of great help to you someday if you save me.” The lion laughed at the mouse’s confidence and let it go.
One day some hunters came to the forest and took the lion with them. They tied him to a tree. The lion was struggling to get out and started whimpering. Soon, the mouse walked past and saw the lion in trouble. He ran fast and gnawed the ropes to free the lion. Both quickly ran towards the forest.

One day, King Akbar asked such a question in his court, which surprised everyone in the court. As they all were trying to know the answer, Birbal came in and asked what was the matter. He repeated the question to him.
The question was, “How many crows are there in town?”
Birbal immediately smiled and went to Akbar. He announced the answer; He said that there were twenty-one thousand five hundred and twenty-three crows in the city. When asked how he knew the answer, Birbal replied, “Ask your men to count the number of crows. If there are more, then the relatives of the crows from the nearby cities must have come to visit them. If there are fewer, then the crows of our city must be visiting their relatives living outside the city. Pleased with the answer, Akbar presented a ruby and pearl garland to Birbal.

3. The Fox and the Stork
One day a selfish fox invited the stork to dinner. The stork was overjoyed to receive the invitation – she reached the fox’s house in time and knocked on the door with her long beak. The fox led him to the dining table and served some soup in shallow bowls for both of them. Since the bowl was too shallow for the stork, it could not drink the soup at all. But, the fox quickly licked his soup.
The stork was angry and upset, but did not show his anger and behaved politely. To teach the fox a lesson, he then invited it to dinner the next day. He also served soup, but this time the soup was served in two tall narrow vases. The stork drank soup from his vase, but the fox could not drink any of it because of its narrow neck. The fox realized her mistake and went home hungry and thirsty.

Once upon a time, there lived a greedy man in a small town. He was very rich, and he was very fond of gold and all beautiful things. But he loved his daughter the most. One day he met an angel. Paris hair was tangled in the branches of some trees. He helped her, but as his greed grew, he realized he had an opportunity to become rich by asking for a wish in return (helping her). The fairy granted him a wish. He said, “Everything I touch should turn to gold.” And his wish was granted by the grateful angel.
The greedy man went home to tell his wife and daughter about his wish, touching all the stones and pebbles he could and turning them into gold. As soon as he reached home, his daughter ran to greet him. As soon as he bent down to take her in his arms, she turned into a golden statue. He broke down and started crying and trying to bring his daughter back to life. He realized his folly and spent the rest of his days searching for the angel to grant him his wish.

5. The Boy Who Cried, Wolf
A carefree boy lived with his father in a village. The boy’s father told him that he had grown enough to take care of the sheep while they were grazing in the fields. Every day, he had to take the sheep to the meadow and watch them graze. However, the boy was sad and did not want to take the sheep to the fields. He wanted to run and play, and not watch the boring sheep graze in the field. So, he decided to have some fun. He shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” until the whole village came running with stones to drive the wolf away before it could eat any of the sheep. When the villagers saw that there was no wolf, they went away muttering under their breaths how the boy had wasted their time. The next day the boy once again cried, “Wolf! Wolf!” And, again, the villagers arrive there to drive the wolf away.
The boy laughed at the scare he had made. This time the villagers left angry. On the third day, as the boy climbed a small hill, he suddenly saw a wolf attacking his sheep. He cried as loud as he could, “Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!”, but not a single villager came to his aid. The villagers thought he was trying to fool them again and he did not come to save him or his sheep. That day the little boy realized his folly. Because of this many sheep were lost.

6. The Proud Rose
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful rose plant in a garden. A rose flower on a plant was proud of its beauty. However, it was disappointing that it was growing next to an ugly cactus. Rose cursed the cactus for his looks, but the cactus remained silent. All the plants in the garden tried to dissuade Rose from threatening the cactus, but Rose was so enraptured by her beauty that she could not listen to any of them.
One summer, a well in the garden dried up and there was no water for the plants. The rose slowly started withering. Gulab saw a sparrow dipping its beak into a cactus for some water. The rose then felt ashamed that she had made fun of the cactus so much. But because he needed water, he went to ask the cactus if he could have some water. The kindly cactus agreed, and they both went through the summer as friends.
