The Circle of Good Deed Story

Once upon a time, Shri Krishna and Arjun went out for a tour in the city. He saw a poor looking priest begging. Arjun took pity on him and gave him a bag filled with 100 gold coins. The priest was very happy and thanked Arjun. He went to his home. On the way he saw another person who needed help. The priest could leave a coin or two to help the person. However, he chose to ignore it. But while going home a thief robbed his bag full of coins and ran away.

The priest became disappointed and went to beg for alms again. Next day when Arjun again saw the same priest begging, he was surprised that even after getting a bag full of coins that could last him a lifetime, the priest was still begging! He called the priest and asked him the reason. The priest told him about the entire incident and Arjun again felt pity on him. So, this time he gave her a diamond.

The Priest and The Goat Story

The priest was very happy and went home and again he saw someone who needed help but he again chose to ignore. Upon reaching home, he placed the diamond safely in an empty vessel of water, with the plan that he would later take it out and live a prosperous life. His wife was not at home. He was very tired so he decided to take a nap. Meanwhile, his wife came home and picked up the empty water vessel and went towards the nearby river to fill it. He had not paid attention to the diamond in the pot. On reaching the river, he poured the entire vessel into the flowing water of the river to fill it. He filled the pitcher but the diamond was swept away with the flow of water!

When the priest woke up, he went to see the pitcher and asked his wife about the diamond. He told him, he did not pay attention to it and it must have been lost in the river. The priest could not believe his bad luck and started begging again. Then Arjun and Shri Krishna saw him begging and Arjun inquired about it. Arjun felt bad and started wondering whether this priest would ever have a happy life.

Shri Krishna, the incarnation of God, smiled. Shri Krishna gave a coin to the priest which was not even enough to buy lunch or dinner for one person. Arjun asked Shri Krishna, “Lord, I gave him gold coins and diamonds, which could have given him a prosperous life, yet it did not benefit him. How will just one coin help this poor man?” Shri Krishna smiled and told Arjun to follow that priest and find out.

On the way, the priest was thinking that with the single coin given to him by Shri Krishna, he could not even buy lunch for one person. Why would he give so little? He saw a fisherman who was taking out fish from his net. The fish was struggling. The priest felt pity on the fish. He thought that this one coin would not solve his problem, so why not save that fish. So the priest paid the fisherman and took the fish. He put the fish in his small vessel of water which he always kept with him.

The fish was struggling in a small vessel of water, took the diamond out of its mouth! The priest shouted happily, “I’ve got it, I’ve got it”. At the same time, the thief was passing by who had robbed the priest’s bag containing 100 gold coins. He thought that the priest had recognized him and that perhaps he might be punished. He got scared and ran to the priest. He apologized to the priest and returned his bag containing 100 gold coins. The priest could not believe what had just happened.

Arjun saw all this and said, O Lord, now I have understood your leela.

Moral Story:- When you have enough to help others, don’t let that opportunity pass. You will always get the rewards of your good deeds.
