An Old Lady in The Cruise
A man asked why an old lady was alone on a cruise ship. She noticed that although she was alone, all the staff, the ship’s officers, waiters and busboys were very familiar to her. So, he asked the waiter who the woman was, expecting to be told…she was the boss of the line, but all the waiter knew was that she had been on one of the previous four cruises.
As he left the dining room one evening, she caught sight of him and stopped to say hello. They struck up a conversation and he asked, “I understand you’ve been on this ship for the past four cruises.”
He replied, “Yes, it is true.”
She said, “I don’t understand” and she replied nonchalantly, “It’s cheaper than a nursing home. So, there will be no nursing home in my future. I’m staying on this cruise; the average cost for a nursing Home is $200 per day. Here, I can get a long term discount and a senior discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 per day for tips and extra cash. I made it here.
I can have more than 10 meals a day, great food or room service, which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week. I get the free pool, workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night. I get free toothpaste, razors, and free soaps and shampoos. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. The entire staff will be racing to assist you with tips as low as $5.
I meet new people every 7 or 14 days! TV broke? Need to change light bulb? Need to change cases? No problem! They will make everything right and apologize for your inconvenience. Clean sheets and towels every day and you don’t even have to ask for them. There is always a doctor on board. This is how I want to live the end of my life.

The Bamboo and The Fern
This is an amazing story about a man who decided to give up his job, relationships, and spirituality. But before that, he sought advice from God.
“I woke up one day and went through it as usual, when I suddenly felt the urge to give up everything – my job, my relationships, and my spirituality. Before that, I went to have one final talk with God and asked him if He can give me at least one reason why not to leave it all.
I continued…. “In three years, nothing had yet come out of the bamboo seed. But, I will not give up. In the fourth year, again, nothing came out of the bamboo seed. I will not leave Then in the fifth year a small sprout sprouted from the earth. It seemed small and insignificant compared to the fern…but after just 6 months the bamboo grew to over 100 feet tall. It had spent five years growing roots. Those roots made him strong and gave him everything he needed to survive. I will never challenge any of my creations that it cannot handle.”
Then the Lord asked… “Do you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you are actually growing the roots? I will not give up on the bamboo. I will never give up on you. Compare yourself Don’t do it to others,” he said. “Bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Still, they both make the forest beautiful. Your time will also come. You will rise high”.
“How high should I go?” I asked him, and God replied: “How high will the bamboo rise?”
Confused, I replied: “How high can it be?” And the Lord said: “Yes. Glorify me by rising as high as you can.”
After this unusual conversation, I went home and wrote this story to tell you that God loves you and will never give up on you, so you should never give up – instead, get as high as you can. Need to wake up!”
English Story For Class 7 Competiton
The Clever Crow
Once upon a time, there lived a crow. He made his nest on a tree. A snake had made its home in the root of the same tree. Whenever the crow would lay eggs, the snake would eat them. The crow was feeling helpless. “That wicked snake. I must do something. Let me go and talk to him,” thought the crow.
The next morning, the crow went to the snake and said politely, “Please spare my eggs, dear friend. Let us be good neighbors and not disturb each other.” “Huh! You can’t expect me to starve. Eggs are all I eat,” replied the snake in a garbled voice. The crow got angry and thought, “I must teach that snake a lesson.”
The very next day, the crow was flying over the king’s palace. He saw the princess wearing a costly necklace. Suddenly a thought came to her mind and she swooped down, picked up the necklace in her beak, and flew toward her nest.
When the princess saw the crow flying away with the necklace, she cried out, “Somebody help, the crow has taken my necklace.”
Soon the guards of the palace started running hither and thither in search of the necklace. Within a short time, the guards found the crow. She was still sitting hanging the necklace from her beak. The clever crow thought, “Now is the time to act.” And she dropped the necklace, which fell into the snake pit of the house.
When the snake heard the sound, it came out of its pit of the house. The guards of the palace saw the snake. “A snake! Kill it!” they shouted. With big sticks, they beat the snake and killed it.
Then the guards took the necklace and went back to the princess. The crow was happy, “Now my eggs will be safe,” she thought and lived a happy and peaceful life.

The Donkey and The Cotton
Once upon a time, there lived a salt merchant. He had a monkey to assist him. Every morning he would load a sack of salt on a donkey and go to the nearby town to sell it. On the way, they had to cross a pond.
One day, while crossing the pond, the donkey thought, “Oh! This load is so heavy that I get tired very quickly. I wish I could take some of this load off my back.” Then the donkey staggered and fell into the water.
Luckily, the donkey was not hurt. But the sack of salt kept on the donkey’s back fell into the water. Both the donkey and the salt got wet. Some of the salt in the sack dissolved, due to which the donkey’s burden became lighter. The donkey was very happy as the weight of the sack of salt on his back was reduced. The merchant tried his best to help the donkey get up and they continued on their journey.
From that day, whenever they crossed the pond to go to the market, it became a regular practice for the donkey to slip and fall into the pond. This dissolved some of the salt in the sack and thus reduced the weight and relieved the donkey of some of the load. The merchant did not know about the cleverness of the donkey. This process continued for some days.
One day the merchant saw that the donkey was intentionally slipping and landing in the water with the sack. “Oh! So that’s how I’m losing my salt every day,” he thought. He decided to teach the donkey a lesson.
The next morning, instead of loading the sack of salt, the merchant loaded the sack of cotton on the donkey’s back. They had decided to reach the market by crossing the same pond as usual. While crossing the same pond, the donkey slipped and fell into the pond as usual, in the hope that after some time the weight of the sack would decrease.
As usual, both the donkey and the cotton got wet. But this time when he woke up, the burden on his back felt heavy. “Oh! It seems the burden has become heavy,” thought the donkey. The donkey was astonished by what happened contrary to the normal outcome.
The merchant looked at the donkey and said, “Dear friend, I noticed that you deliberately fall into the pond water every day with the malicious intention of reducing the weight of the salt. So, I loaded the cotton sacks today. Cotton becomes bulkier and heavier when wet.
Now you have to take it to the city.” The poor donkey had learned his lesson.

The Judge Monkey
Once upon a time, two cats were passing through a street. Suddenly he saw a piece of bread lying under a tree. Both of them pounced on him and at the same time caught hold of the roti. “It’s mine. I saw it first,” claimed one cat, while the other said, “I grabbed it first and so it’s mine.” After fighting for a while, one cat said, Let’s divide it into two parts and take one piece each.” “Indeed, a good idea,” said the other cat. “But how can we divide it now?”
A monkey sitting on the branch of a tree was watching what was happening between the two cats. “That bread tastes good. I can manage myself with it,” he thought. Slowly he climbed down from the tree and went to the confused cats.
“Yes, my dear friends! Can I help you?” asked the monkey. The cats told the monkey what the problem was and said, “Why don’t you be the judge among us?” When the monkey nodded, the cats said, “Please take this bread. divide it for us.”
The clever monkey laughed and broke the bread into two pieces. But one piece was slightly larger than the other. “Oh your! I will cut a little off this big piece so that both become equal,” said the monkey slyly. He took a bite out of the bigger piece. Second piece. I’ll just have to take a bite out of this piece,” said the clever monkey.
Judge Monkey took another bite. Both the cats were sitting in front of the monkey, looking at the loaf of bread they were getting smaller and smaller. When the monkey had eaten the whole bread, the monkey said, “Sorry. It was really difficult for me to share that bread. I must go now.” And the monkey jumped up the tree and went. Two cats.

The Prince and The Snake
There was a wise and kind king in the kingdom of Vijaygarh. People were happy. But the king himself was sad and worried. A demonic snake had entered his son’s body. Neither medicine nor magic worked to cure his son.
When the prince grew up, he thought, “It is because of me that my father is worried.” And one day he left the palace. While roaming around, he came to another state. He found a desolate temple and started living there. He begged
The king of that kingdom was cruel. But he had a kind and beautiful daughter. The king was unhappy with his daughter. That girl always used to make fun of her father’s hard work. The king thought, “She always talks less about my hard work than me. I should get her married to a beggar. Then she will know what hard work is.”
So when the beggar prince came to the palace to beg for food, the cruel king forced him to marry his daughter. The prince and his new bride set out for the deserted temple. On the way, they stopped to rest. The princess wandered here and there in search of food, while her husband slept.
When the princess came back, she was surprised to see a snake sitting in her husband’s mouth. Another snake was sitting on a mountain nearby. They were talking among themselves. “Why don’t you leave the prince’s body? He is very kind and gentle,” said the snake sitting on the mound. “You are wicked too! You attack passersby. You shouldn’t tell me what to do,” replied the snake sitting on the prince’s mouth.
The princess killed both snakes with all her courage. When her husband woke up, he told her about the two snakes. The prince was happy. Then he told her who he really was. They walked towards the prince’s palace. The king was very happy to have his son. When the king learned that the evil snake had been killed, his joy knew no bounds. The prince and the princess lived happily ever after. After a few years, the Kingdom celebrated the day the royal couple gave birth to twins, a boy, and a girl.
